Revision as of 04:50, 15 April 2013

This is my try to make a usable NAS and streaming server out of the Raw Lenny image that Excito supply.

1. Connect to 192.168.0.50 with ssh -l root and password excito.

2. Add virtual eth0 interface, to be safe.

http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/68

3. Connect to the new ip of bubba-raw.

4. bubba-raw:~# date

will give

Sun Apr 12 12:00:00 UTC 1970

this is totaly wrong and unhealty.

type this to correct the anomaly:

bubba-raw:~# date --set="2011-03-31 22:55"

and that will give:

Thu Mar 31 22:55:00 UTC 2011

next time, this funny will apear

Last login: Mon Apr 13 04:34:14 1970 from 10.0.1.7
bubba-raw:~#

There you go, step 2 allowed you to change IP without dropping the connection and if any error occured you could fix them.

5. Change passwd (to be more secure)

6. apt-get

change to

deb http://archive.debian.org/debian-archive/debian lenny main

in /etc/apt/sources.list

and run: apt-get install debian-archive-keyring

Avahi

nano /etc/network/interfaces

pre-up ifconfig eth0 allmulti

var/log/syslog

complaining about modules.deb run depmod to clear things up http://linux.die.net/man/8/depmod mkdir /lib/modules/2.6.16.16 then depmod
